We employ the use of an Intrusion Detection System or IDS. This is a multi-layered system which monitors network traffic and blocks suspicious activity. A standard block is 60 minutes. This prevents malicious attacks on our system and works to keep your information secure.
Q: The IDS has blocked me, but I still need to get to my website or email. What can I do?
A: The IDS blocks are IP and Network based. If you are blocked, you can move to a different IP or network. This could be as simple as turning off WiFi on your phone. Another thing you can try is connecting to a different network. You can also contact us directly and we will tell you why you were blocked and what you can do to prevent it in the future.
Q: What triggers an IDS block?
A: In short, a long list of things. Simply though, you should not typically be blocked under normal use. As you are aware, security vulnerabilities are found regularly.
Q: What can I do to prevent getting blocked?
A: Our IDS monitors traffic trying to make use of those exploits. Keeping your software, drivers and Operating System patched and updated is a great way to prevent a block. Also, running a mainstream Malware scanner will prevent you from unknowingly getting an infection. Many browsers, plug-ins and extensions have weaknesses which can allow a malicious or infected website to install malware on your computer. Malware which may not only try to steal your personal information, but also try to infect other sites you browse to. Those attempts will trigger our IDS.
Q; What Malware scanner do you recommend I use?
A: There are a long list of scanners out there, and most of them are equally capable. Be cautious with targeted ones. Also, if your computer spontaneously says "### Infections found, Click here to remove them." and then it takes you to a website asking for payment to buy a program to remove them.... That is most likely a sign you are infected, but DO NOT buy that program. Chances are it is a spoof and your payment information will be stolen. Reputable scanners do not operate that way. We recommend Malwarebytes.com because it is a low-cost, lightweight, but extremely thorough malware scanner. The Free Version is fully capable to detect and remove any known existing threat or infection. If you still have issues beyond that, contact us directly and we can help get your computer running top-notch and clean again.
